Ascend Performance Materials’ Acteev Protect™ has been named a finalist for Outdoor Retailer’s 2021 Innovation Awards. The antimicrobial odor-resisting fabric was selected to advance to the final round based on its design, functionality and impact.
“It’s an honor to be chosen as a finalist by Outdoor Retailer, and we are proud to be named among these incredible technologies in the outdoor apparel and gear industry,” said Phil McDivitt, Ascend’s president and CEO.
Acteev Protect is made with a patent-pending technology that embeds zinc ions in a polymer to create long-lasting antimicrobial properties. The result is a fabric that destroys odor-causing bacteria and fungi. Acteev technology is available in a wide range of textiles featuring the flexibility, softness and durability of nylon 6,6.
Recent testing on knit fabric completed at the University of Cambridge demonstrated that Acteev technology deactivates the virus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, with 99.9% efficacy on contact1. Ascend is working with governmental agencies to obtain the appropriate regulatory clearances to make specific claims regarding the technology’s antiviral properties.
“As we send our kids back to school, return to the workplace, and resume sports and activities, we need options that are long-lasting and wearable for hours,” McDivitt said. “Acteev fabrics are abrasion-resistant, soft and durable. And because the zinc ions are embedded during the polymerization process, knit and woven articles made with Acteev Protect retain their antimicrobial efficacy up to 50 washes .”
The judging panel evaluated submissions based on four criteria — Spark: concept, design, appeal; Desire: opportunity, differentiation; Function: innovation, functionality, insight; and Impact: cultural, environmental, business.
Innovation Awards winners will be announced 2021 年 1 月 21 日, during Outdoor Retailer Winter Online.
